Being a Filer Is the Cheapest Tax Decision You Will Make
Most people only learn what non-filer status costs them at the worst possible moment: at the bank counter, the vehicle registration desk, or the property registrar, where non-filers pay roughly double the withholding tax on the same transaction. That gap is not a fine you can argue down. It is deducted automatically, every time, until your name appears on the Active Taxpayer List (ATL).
Getting onto that list is what “becoming a filer” actually means, and it is more procedural than most people expect. You need a valid NTN, a correctly prepared income tax return, and a wealth statement that reconciles, all submitted through the FBR IRIS portal before the deadline.
We handle that entire path for you. A. Sattar & Co. has worked as chartered accountants since 1999, filing for salaried employees, business owners, private companies, and overseas Pakistanis. You send us your documents, we register, prepare, and file, and we confirm the day your ATL status goes active. Fixed fees, no office visit required.

Who Needs Filer Services?
Filer status is not only for large businesses. If you earn, own, or transact in Pakistan, non-filer rates are quietly costing you. These four groups benefit most.
1. Salaried Employees If your annual salary exceeds Rs. 600,000, filing an income tax return is a legal requirement, not an optional extra. Your employer already deducts tax at source, so filing often costs you nothing in additional liability while unlocking lower withholding on your bank profit, car, and property dealings. Many salaried clients recover more in reduced deductions than they pay in our fee.
2. Business Owners and Sole Proprietors Vendors, banks, and larger clients increasingly check ATL status before they release payments or open accounts. As a non-filer, you absorb higher withholding on supplies, contracts, and cash withdrawals, and you lose credibility with corporate customers. Filer status protects your margins and your reputation in one step.
3. Companies and Their Directors For a registered company, filer status is a compliance baseline, not a bonus. A company off the ATL faces elevated withholding on its own receipts and payments, and directors who remain non-filers create exposure during due diligence, banking, and audits. We keep the company and its directors filing in sync, so finance leaders are not chasing status corrections at deal time.
4. Overseas Pakistanis If you hold property, bank accounts, or investments in Pakistan, your filer status determines the rate applied when you buy, sell, or receive returns. You do not need to travel or hold local income to file. We complete the full process remotely and keep you active on the ATL year after year.
What Our Filer Services Cover
We manage every stage between “non-filer” and “active on the ATL,” and we keep you there.
NTN Registration
Your National Tax Number is your permanent tax identity and the first requirement for filing. We register you on IRIS using your CNIC, contact details, and source-of-income information, usually within one working day.
Income Tax Return Filing
We prepare and file your annual return under the correct form for your income type, salaried, business, or company, calculating your liability accurately and claiming the deductions and tax already withheld on your behalf.
Active Taxpayer List (ATL) Status
Filing a return is what puts you on the ATL, and staying on it is what preserves your lower rates. We confirm your active status after each filing and remind you before the next deadline so you never slip back to non-filer treatment.
Wealth Statement Preparation
A wealth statement is mandatory alongside your return, and a statement that does not reconcile is the most common reason a submission is rejected. We prepare and balance your assets, liabilities, and expenses so the return goes through the first time.
Previous-Year and Late Filing
If you have missed one or more years, we can still bring you current. We assess your back years, file the outstanding returns, and get you reinstated on the ATL, often faster than clients assume is possible.
Business and Corporate Filer Compliance
For companies, we align director and entity filings, manage withholding statements, and keep your compliance calendar on track, so filer status is one less thing your finance team has to manage manually.
How Our Filer Registration Process Works
The path to filer status follows five clear steps. You stay informed at each one, and most individual cases complete within a few working days.
Step 1: Eligibility Check and Quote:
We start with a short consultation to confirm which returns you need, whether you already hold an NTN, and any back years to address. You get a fixed fee before we begin, with no surprises later.
Step 2: Document Collection:
You send your documents by WhatsApp or email: CNIC, salary or income details, bank statements, and asset information for the wealth statement. We tell you exactly what is required for your case so nothing bounces back.
Step 3: NTN Registration:
If you are a first-time filer, we register your NTN on the FBR IRIS portal and verify it before moving on. If you already have one, we confirm your credentials are current.
Step 4: Return and Wealth Statement Preparation:
We calculate your tax position, apply any tax already withheld, and reconcile your wealth statement so your return is accurate and complete. You review a clear summary before anything is submitted.
Step 5: Filing and ATL Confirmation:
We file your return through IRIS, then confirm that your submission has cleared and your ATL status is active. You receive proof of filing for your records, banking, or business use.

Common Questions About Filer Services in Pakistan
How long does it take to become a filer?
For a straightforward salaried or individual case with documents ready, registration and filing typically take a few working days. Your ATL status updates on the FBR list according to its publishing cycle, and we confirm once it is active.
What is the difference between having an NTN and being a filer?
An NTN is your tax registration number, and it never expires. Being a filer is a separate, active status: you appear on the ATL only after your income tax return is filed for the relevant year. In short, an NTN lets you file, but filing is what makes you a filer.
What do I actually save by becoming a filer?
Filers pay markedly lower withholding tax on common transactions, including bank profit, cash withdrawals, vehicle registration and token tax, property purchases and sales, and dividends. For anyone banking or transacting regularly, those reduced rates often exceed the cost of filing within a single year.
I have not filed for several years. Can I still become a filer?
Yes. We assess your outstanding years, file the required returns, and get you reinstated on the ATL. Bringing lapsed cases current is a routine part of our work, and we will tell you upfront what each year involves.
Do overseas Pakistanis need to be filers?
If you own property, hold bank accounts, or invest in Pakistan, filer status directly lowers the withholding applied to those assets and transactions. You can file without local income or a visit to Pakistan, and we manage the entire process remotely.
